Camagüey, the largest of Cuba's provinces, is a vast plain with no large hills or mountains. The economy is based on argiculture and cattle, and Camaguey is the largest provider of beef in Cuba.
The province's capital city, also called Camagüey, though almost 50 kilometers from the ocean, was a frequent target of pirates. The growing city was designed in a labyrinthine, non-linear, manner in order to confuse those who would attack it.
Now Cuba's third-largest city, Camagüey contains many beautiful plazas and, thus, received the nickname "The City of Squares." The City of Camagüey is approximately 570 kilometers (350 miles) from Havana.
